Springing Into Action with Good Dental Hygiene

Here at our family dentist Indianapolis, we are springing into action this spring with fresh dental habits! Daily preventative care is key. Dental care is not just for that beautiful pearly white smile. It is also for your overall oral health. Without oral hygiene, you are at risk for the obvious results of bad breath and cavities, as well as more severe cases of tooth loss, pregnancy complications, and gum disease. In fact, gum disease, when left untreated, can introduce a whole slew of complications affecting your entire body.

Daily dental care will keep your mouth happy and ease your worries about complications down the road. Here are some tips that will help you on your way to great oral hygiene:

  1. Brush and floss your teeth twice daily.

This is a no brainer, but you would be surprised by how many people only do it once a day, or don’t brush or floss at all. Make sure you also brush your gums and tongue to remove that extra bacteria.

  1. Make regular visits to your dentist.

There is only so much you can do for your teeth at home. Making a regular dentist appointment is key to employing preventative measures against potentially nastier dental issues down the road. You wouldn’t go ages without seeing your doctor, would you?

  1. Limit sugar, soda, coffee, and alcohol.

Have you ever heard that too much of any one thing is bad? While drinks like coffee, soda, and alcohol aren’t harmful in moderation, too much can lead to tooth decay and staining. Consult your dentist about the amount of soda you consume, and cut back slowly as advised.

Decide now to create a habit of good dental hygiene with us at our family dentist Indianapolis. Try setting reminders on your phone, or place a sticky note on your mirror if you have a hard time with some dental habits. Spring into a new you and start this season!
